PBS

PBS has long been home to some of television’s most compelling mysteries and dramas — and Northern Lights helped bring that slate to life from concept through final delivery. Across multiple executions, we handled creative direction, scripting, editorial, design and animation, finishing, sound design, and mix, bringing intrigue, emotion, wit, and suspense together in a campaign that feels sophisticated, cinematic, and seriously entertaining.
For select spots, we introduced a signature blue line inspired by the legendary Saul Bass — a simple design element transformed into a character of its own, weaving through scenes and connecting characters, clues, and stories unifying the look and feel of this campaign.

Alibis. Hidden clues. Unexpected twists. Big reveals. Across the campaign, we leaned into the language and classic tropes of the mystery genre, using carefully selected dialogue, music, and sharp editorial to turn PBS’s expansive slate into a series of compelling stories — each with its own personality and each leaving viewers wanting to know what happens next.

From clever whodunits to sweeping, character-driven dramas, each execution gives a different side of PBS programming its moment. We crafted spots across multiple lengths and formats — including dedicated social executions — adapting the pacing, storytelling, and creative approach to fit the programming and the platform while keeping the larger campaign feeling cohesive.

And the work didn’t stop with the spots themselves. Building on the blue line device, we created a flexible graphics toolkit that PBS affiliates could use to bring the same visual language into their own edits and programming. By turning a memorable piece of campaign creative into a scalable system, we gave PBS and its affiliates the building blocks to keep the idea moving well beyond the original work.
